I went to New York over spring break and I saw a lot of great art. I went to the New Museum and a few different galleries which was really cool. However, my favorite art-related experience over the week was the Neue Galerie. It is a museum specifically for German and Austrian art so there was a lot of Klimt, Munch, Kokoschka, Kubin and Scheile. I was a very happy girl and was so incredibly inspired, especially by the sketches from all these artists. I also found out about artists like Kokoschka, who I had never heard of. I was really struck by his portraits in oil. They felt very dense which is exactly what I want in my own work. I was so excited by the nude sketches from Klimt and Scheile. They were so beautiful. I have never seen a Scheile in person and so getting up close to them and just really staring and absorbing the work of one of my all time favorite artists was amazing. It reinforced my love for his line quality and style and I really enjoyed that. I also saw a series of drawings of pregnant women he did which was really interesting and I can see myself exploring that shape. I loved this museum and it was so exciting for me to experience this art.
I was unable to take pictures so here is the best of what I can find that I especially enjoyed.
I am an art student at Maggie Walker and this is the place where I talk about what we're making and what we're learning... Through this I can pour out my heart about my artistic experience.
