Last Friday evening I went down to Artworks and Plant Zero on Hull St downtown. The two galleries down there open up every 4th Friday and its a cool place to check out. At Artworks, they always have two or three featured shows in the front of the building. After getting a snack, listening to the band and checking out the featured artist or whatever they happen to be showing, you can wander around the hallways. Artworks is a collection of small-ish studio spaces and sometimes the artists open them up and you can go in, check them out, and but something. It's a really cool thing to do. You encounter all kinds of people and all different kinds of art- ceramics, photography, steampunk sculptures, clothing, printers, all kinds of painters with all kinds of subject matter. Friday they were featuring Robert Winne's show, "In the Evening." He makes mixed media squares that look very natural and earthy, but have really diverse and interesting textures.
Just Hanging Around Cast Bronze & Blown Glass 12 x 12 This is a sculpture by T K Harris, another featured artists. All her sculptures were really beautiful and interesting. There were six sculptures this size, about 20 small "index card sized" ones and a bunch of paintings and small prints. Very cool.
I am an art student at Maggie Walker and this is the place where I talk about what we're making and what we're learning... Through this I can pour out my heart about my artistic experience.
